استكشف العالم الملموس والمنحوت للفنان الأسترالي غراي رولن البالغ من العمر 58 عاماً.

عملت "رولن" كمصممة جرافيك في سيدني الصاخبة، ساعيةً إلى الدقة والكمال. ولكن في سن الخامسة والثلاثين، وفي إحدى عطلات نهاية الأسبوع، انتقلت وحدها إلى الساحل بالقرب من بيرث. وفي مواجهة اتساع الطبيعة، أدركت فجأة أن وسائل الإعلام المطبوعة لا يمكنها تصوير عمق المحيط والشعور الملموس للرمال بشكل كامل.

وبالعودة إلى الاستوديو الخاص بها، لم تبدأ الرسم على الفور. وبدلاً من ذلك، وضعت سكينها وألوانها وبدأت في وضع طبقات ونحت على القماش، كما لو كانت تعيد بناء الشاطئ والأمواج. لم تعد "تصور" البحر ببساطة بل "تبني" لحظة ملموسة.

تقول: "لوحاتي ليست للنظر إليها بل للإحساس بها". كل ضربة بسكينة الرسم، وكل طبقة سميكة من الطلاء، هي حوار مع البحر استمر لمدة عشرين عاماً. فهي تكثف هدوء المحيط وحرية طيور النورس ومرور الزمن في هذه الطبقات السميكة من الطلاء. لم تعد تسعى وراء سطح مستوٍ مثالي، بل وجدت حياتها الفنية الخاصة، حياة متجذرة في اللمس والزمن.
