Astrid era una designer digitale a Stoccolma e ogni giorno si confrontava con i freddi pixel. Durante un lungo inverno, ha avvertito una profonda stanchezza digitale, desiderando di toccare la realtà con la punta delle dita. Ha iniziato a sperimentare nel suo studio con l'argilla e il gesso, cercando di replicare le morbide texture della terra e le geometrie arrotondate dei suoi sogni. La sua prima opera, un semplice cerchio di terracotta, non solo l'ha guarita, ma ha anche risuonato con innumerevoli persone sui social media. Mateo de la Sombra utilizes heavy impasto and palette knife techniques to create "architectural" layers that challenge the boundary between painting and shadow-play.
